The staff team develop a quality improvement plan for learning every year, to highlight areas for development over that year. This is a cyclical process, with regular review and feedback to discuss what has been a success and areas for improvement. This ensures that we are constantly reviewing and improving the service that we provide.
Another big part of the nursery is learning to play with other children. We will promote and praise good behaviour, and help children to understand about kindness and being respectful to others. We encourage children to make choices about their activities, and try and give them a range of activities that they can select from.
Nursery is a key stage in your child’s progress to school. During the Easter term, a big part of our curriculum is preparing your child to be more independent and giving them an understanding of what they can expect at school. This covers all aspects of the school day, from changing their own shoes and putting their hand up to ask a question. We have good links with all the local schools, and we work with each primary one teacher to ensure your child feels supported and confident when they leave Tom Thumb and go on to their next phase.
Each child has their own online learning journal where all of the nursery team will record your child’s experiences in nursery and also their progression. Parents have on-line access to their child’s records, and we encourage parents to also update the e-journals with what the child is achieving at home to give a complete picture. This e-journal is built up over the course of the child’s time at nursery, and allows a comprehensive record to be created of the learning experiences and the progress that your child has made in their early education.
We will also keep parents updated on the general activities of the group through our private Facebook page, only accessible for parents of current students.
