Welcome to Tom Thumb Nursery & Playgroup

Tom Thumb have been running a vibrant and welcoming nursery and playgroup in South Queensferry community
for over 40 years. We welcome children from age 2 and a half for playgroup sessions, and for their funded hours the term following their third birthday.

Curriculum for Excellence

Our location at the Vennel hall provides a safe and stimulating environment for your child to grow and develop. We carefully plan our curriculum to include all the elements for Curriculum for Excellence, ensuring a broad range of learning experiences. The nursery has a wide choice of play equipment and resources in our bright and airy hall. We have established a reputation as a quality service provider, and have links to all the local schools as well as across the wider community.

Encourage

Outdoor Learning

Situated in the heart of South Queensferry town, we are in a perfect location to access a range of experiences for the children, such as the beach, the Vennel community garden and the wooded paths. As well as the community garden on our doorstep, we venture out on a Forest Friday into the woods to enjoy a morning session of outdoor play. We also take the children out on other trips to the beach, on the train and even on an occasional pirate adventure to Inchcolm island!

Partner with

Edinburgh Council

We are a partner of the City of Edinburgh Council and our nursery places are free to parents, fully funded by the Council in the term following your child’s third birthday. This partnership as a partner provider with the Council means that we deliver a high standard of care as part of our contract. We are a charity, and so all the grant funding from the Council is used to invest in staffing and resources in order to provide a first-class service for our children.

Outdoor education and play supports emotional, behavioural and intellectual development.
